From Hype to Help: Using AI to Streamline Your Research

Thu 13 Nov 2025 7:00am9:00am

Artificial intelligence is poised to transform the research landscape. But how can you see past the hype and make it work for you right now?

Join us for From Hype to Help: Using AI to Streamline Your Research. At this RECOVER Injury Research Centre Breakfast Series event, we will explore practical, ethical and effective ways to integrate AI into your research.

Kickstarting the morning is keynote presenter Dr Stefan Harrer, Program Director for AI for Science at CSIRO. Stefan will introduce Sciansa; a new agentic AI-powered research assistant built to accelerate scientific discovery. Co-designed with CSIRO scientists, engineers, legal experts, and responsible AI scholars, Sciansa empowers researchers to explore ideas, analyse data, interpret findings, and streamline complex workflows.

Next, Jake Carroll, Director of the UQ Research Computing Centre, will outline how UQ’s sovereign resources and infrastructure enable AI-supported research and illustrate responsible and ethical approaches to using AI in research.

Rounding out the program, Dr Joshua Simmich, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at RECOVER, will take us behind the scenes with a candid look at creative, real-world uses of cutting-edge AI tools.

The morning will conclude with an engaging panel discussion featuring all three speakers, offering practical takeaways and answering your AI questions.

Come for the coffee, stay for the insights — and leave with new tools and ideas to help you research smarter with AI.
