Laser technology and early detection of cancer

Prof. Aleksandar Rakić leads UQ’s Photonics and Microwave Engineering group.

His research focuses on the development of technologies for sensing and imaging across the electromagnetic spectrum including microwave, terahertz wave and optical systems.

His research team is developing disrupting technologies based on the terahertz quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) for the next generation of terahertz imaging systems suitable for early detection of skin cancer.
