2025 UQ AI Conference Dry Run Seminar Series wrap up

17 Oct 2025

The UQ AI Conference Dry Run Seminar Series is an initiative launched by the Data Science Discipline within UQ’s School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) to empower our HDR student community.

This inaugural event marked the beginning of a recurring seminar series designed to prepare students for top international conferences. The series provides a platform for HDR students to rehearse presentations, receive constructive feedback from peers and faculty, and share innovative research emerging from UQ. It also fosters collaboration and connection across research groups through shared learning and discussion. Each session followed a 10-minute presentation and 5-minute Q&A format, replicating a professional conference environment. The enthusiastic participation, insightful dialogue, and high-quality presentations made the event a resounding success, establishing a strong foundation for future seminars.

We extend our appreciation to the expert panel — Prof. Shazia Sadiq, Prof. Ryan Ko, Dr. Ruihong Qiu, Dr. Joel Mackenzie, A/Prof. Mahsa Baktashmotlagh, and Dr. Alina Bialkowski — for their valuable feedback and guidance.

Congratulations to Zixin Wang and Jiaying Ying, recipients of the Best Presentation Awards for Session I and II, respectively. With strong attendance and engaging discussions, the event exemplified UQ’s commitment to fostering excellence, collaboration, and innovation in AI research.
