UQ-led conference trial breaks down language barriers in science

School of the Environment researchers have demonstrated how AI and practical accessibilitiy measures can help make international science more inclusive.

Trialled at the 32nd International Congress for Conservation Biology, the initiative combined AI-powered translation and transcription with human support to address barriers "from submitting an abstract to networking on the sidelines".

Lead researcher Associate Professor Tatsuya Amano said, "Diversity is key to scientific innovation and to resolving pressing global challenges," while noting that "AI is not yet a silver bullet" and works best when combined with human collaboration.
