AI could help endangered birds

School of the Environment researchers have shown how AI could transform bird conservation by detecting birds in drone imagery "85 times faster than humans".

The UQ-led global study found AI can process large volumes of drone imagery efficiently, enabling surveys to be conducted "more often and at larger scales".

Researchers say the technology could improve monitoring of Australia's wetlands and threatened bird species, while freeing experts to focus on designing monitoring programs and driving conservation action.
