School of Agriculture and Food Sustainability researchers are combining AI, high-performance computing and advanced CT imaging to better understand how crop roots respond to soil compaction.
The UQ-led project is using AI "to capture some of these processes in much greater detail", enabling researchers to connect soil physical processes with root architecture and function and providing "a much clearer picture of what is happening belowground".
The approach is creating new opportunities for scientific discovery and more practical strategies to manage soil constraints in agriculture.
