AI Research Strengths in Language Models

With AI increasingly impacting the world around us, researchers Professor Janet Wiles, Dr Jessica Korte and Dr Andrew Back are examining language learning in AI. Language really reflects how humans interact with one another, and will increasingly reflect how we interact with technologies. With 7000 languages in the world, these researchers are interested in how we incorporate all language types including sign language in Indigenous languages to ensure marginalised communities are not excluded from AI technologies. They're also interested a human-centered approach to AI to ensure the technologies are available to reflect and support what people actually want to do.
