Bias and fairness

AI sometimes makes systematic errors that may lead to bias and unfair decisions.

At UQ, we investigate human-centred AI methods to better understand the causes of and to better deal with bias and fairness in AI.

Examples of our research include studies on online misinformation aimed at understanding how it spreads and how it is perceived by people, AI models to understand and predict online user interaction behaviour, and methods to reduce AI mistakes that are difficult to be automatically detected.
