The great strides made in AI over recent years come at a cost in terms of high energy usage and consequently high greenhouse gas emissions when using large scale deep learning models. Researchers from the AI Collaboratory Associate Professor Guido Zucco and Dr Rocky Chen believe it is important to be mindful of the environmental cost when exploring new deep learning models. This can be achieved through the design of simpler and more lightweight AI algorithms and models, and new approaches that can generate green search systems.
